Black Pepper CNV Database

Black pepper (Piper nigrum L.), also known as "the king of spices" (Piperaceae family), is an economically important spice crop. It is not only used as a spice and condiment in food, due to its pungency and flavor, but also has a number of additional uses in fragrance, traditional medicine, and preservatives. It contains the alkaloid piperine, which has been found to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic, antipyretic, antimicrobial, digestive, and cytotoxic properties, making black pepper an essential component of food preparations around the globe.

BPCNVdb is a database for copy number variations of black pepper in 39 whole genome resequencing (WGS) genotypes of black pepper found across India. A total of 1,59,390 CNVs and 11,360 CNV regions (CNVR) were identified from WGS libraries of 39 genotypes in comparison to the black pepper reference genome provided by Hu et al., 2019. This database could be utilized by the black pepper research community in various studies such as genotype identification, genetic diversity, marker-trait association, and as a genetic variation resource in plant breeding for acquiring desirable traits.
